Izmir Clock Tower, Kemeralti Bazaar, Kordon Promenade, Asansor (Historical Elevator), Kadifekale (Velvet Castle), Agora Open Air Museum
Discover the vibrant city of Izmir with visits to Kemeralti Market, the scenic Kordon promenade, and the Historical Elevator, offering breathtaking views of the city and sea.
Located on the western coast of Turkey, Izmir is the third-largest city in Anatolia and a vibrant hub of culture, history, and modern life. Known in ancient times as Smyrna, Izmir’s deep historical roots blend seamlessly with its lively contemporary atmosphere.
Your tour begins with a visit to the historic Kemeralti Market, one of the oldest and most colorful bazaars in Turkey. Dating back to the 17th century, Kemeralti is a sprawling network of narrow streets filled with shops selling everything from jewelry and textiles to antiques, local crafts, and fresh spices.
As you walk through the market, you will feel the energy of daily life and have the chance to experience the authentic flavors and traditions of Izmir. Next, continue to Kordon, the scenic waterfront promenade that stretches along the Aegean Sea. Lined with cafes, restaurants, and green parks, Kordon offers spectacular views of the sea and the city skyline. It is a beloved meeting point for locals and visitors alike, perfect for a leisurely stroll or simply relaxing by the water.
A coffee break here allows you to soak in the refreshing sea breeze and admire the beauty of the Izmir coastline. Afterward, proceed to the Historical Elevator (Asansör), one of the city’s principal landmarks. Originally built in 1907 by a wealthy Jewish businessman, Nesim Levi, the elevator was designed to connect the steep cliffs of Izmir’s Karatas district.
Initially powered by a hydraulic water-driven system, it was later modernized with electricity in 1985 by the Izmir Municipality. Today, the Elevator not only provides a convenient ride between different levels of the city but also offers a panoramic terrace at the top, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of Izmir’s bay, the city center, and the surrounding hills.
The tour showcases Izmir’s unique combination of ancient heritage and modern lifestyle, giving visitors a deeper appreciation of its charm, history, and vibrant culture.
